Becoming A Member
Leadership Opportunities
Californians encourages all of its members to be more than just members. There are many levels of involvement possible to fit your leadership desires. Californians realizes that many of its members are great leaders and have strong ambitions to increase their level of involvement within the organization.
Levels of involvement range from being an active member, to testing your leadership skills as the chair of a project, or becoming apart of the cabinet of officers that work with the Overall Student Director to help with the behind the scenes tasks of Californians.
To meet the needs of our members, there are elections that take place every semester. In the fall, there are elections for the following positions:
- Career Networking Seminar Chair
- Cal 101 Chair Banner Chair
In the spring, there are elections for the following positions:
- Overall Student Director
- Homecoming Chair
- All Cabinet Positions (Finance Director, Membership Development Director, Marketing Director)
- Senior Class Office Positions
As Californians continue to increase the amount of events that it hosts, more positions will become available as the year progresses.
Time Commitment
Time commitment for members depends on your level of involvment. Being an active member, you can expect to commit on average at least 5 hours of your time a week working on Californians related activities. These activities include, but are not limited to:
- Practicing and developing your leadership skills by assisting in the planning of a Californians hosted event. For more information about the events Californians hosts, click here
- Creating a dynamic, close nit group of members by attending social events planned throughout the semester. Some social events that our members participate in include going to the ballpark, game night, pre football game tailgate, and much more.
- Attending our weekly meetings (Mondays @ 6 PM). Californians realizes that as students, many of its members are involved in other organizations on class and that there is always a delicate balance between school work and extracurricular activities. Therefore we ask our members to attend at least three fourth of all scheduled meetings. During some of the meeting, we may be having a guest speaker come in and speak to our members about a particular topic. Some topics include resume writing, how to market effectively, experiences at Cal, public speaking, and much more.
- Volunteering at our events. Helping with tabling on Sproul Plaza. As your involvement within Californians increases, you can expect to commit on average 8 to 10 hours a week working on Californians related activities.
